Pudge in Pinstripes: Yankees a Contender Once Again
The New York Yankees have found a replacement for the injured Jorge Posada. They didn't just get a replacement, the Bronx Bombers got a future Hall of Famer in Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez. The Yanks now have an I-Rod to go with A-Rod and their lineup looks better than ever with newcomers Xavier Nady and a .295 hitting catcher in Pudge. All the Yanks had to do is give up reliever Kyle Farnsworth who they wanted to dump anyways. The Tigers will likely use Farnsworth as their closer or set-up man. Brandon Inge will take over the catching duties after Pudge's departure.
Back to NY though now the real winners so far as we approach the trade deadline. The Yankees have picked up three impact players at positions of need. I am also willing to bet NY is not done dealing either. I expect the Yankees to acquire another starter and another reliever to take Farnsworth's spot. The Bronx Bombers have once again found themselves in a pennant race. The Red Sox are reeling, and the R! ays are very young so the Yanks have a great chance to win the AL East or snag the Wildcard. If Boston gets their act together, I still believe they win the AL East because they have such a solid team. The Rays I still like, but they will have their hands full in the Wildcard race with New York (assuming Boston wins the AL East). We will see how good this new Yankee squad is this weekend when NY battles the Angels in a four game series.
Plenty more trade coverage as we approach tomorrows' deadline. Right now LAA and NYY are the big winners.
